Your Professional Development Committee is proud to announce a
three-part educational seminar series for the year 2000. Truly, this
series offers something for everyone in the wastewater business.
In June we begin with a seminar on Emerging Regulations.
Regulations are key drivers in what we do and why we do it. Attend
this seminar and you will learn about the impact of recently adopted
and proposed regulations on your wastewater facility. Look for
announcements in the Sewer Club Ink as well as the Bay Section’s
web site.
Emerging Technologies will be the focus of our second seminar in
September. You will get answers to questions like: What cutting edge
technologies are on the wastewater treatment horizon? How will these
new technologies perform in the real world? Is your treatment plant,
or your clients’ treatment plant, a candidate for the latest and
greatest technologies available to help meet current and emerging
regulations?
What about all that technology that is already in use today? Are
you up on it? Get grounded-get to the basics-understand how your
treatment plant communicates with all that hard wired, softwared,
variable speed driven, inputting/outputting controlled, data logging
technology that they didn’t teach you about in school. In November
we will wrap up the seminar series with Technology in the Treatment
Plant.
Come join us for one or more seminars and gain valuable insight
on the most timely topics, the latest technologies, and future
issues. Look for the seminar series date and time in an upcoming
mailer and in the Bay Sections’ web site.

Dear CWEA’ers
5S NEEDS NOMINATIONS NOW
About every 3 or 4 years, we hit a lull in the 5S nominations. We
only have about 6 sections submitting nominations thus far this year
and the deadline was scheduled to be February 25th. I am going to
move the deadline one week to Monday, March 6th in hopes that all of
you will take a few minutes to prepare a nomination for those people
who deserve to be a Sludge Shoveler but have not been nominated.
Updated submittals of previous nominees are also welcome. It has
sometimes taken 3 or 4 years for an individual to gain entry.
I must admit I did not do any extra "rousting" this
year. It usually does not take that. You can find the list of
existing Shovelers in the January Bulletin as well as the
nominations form. Feel free to request a nominations form by calling
my office at (562)699-7411 ext. 2302 and either I or my staff will
help you.
The format for a nomination is simple. It only requires a one
pager with the person’s relevant contributions to CWEA - with a
minimum 5 years of service. We have an organization of 2000 people
plus and we have so many hard workers at both the section and CWEA
levels. Take that moment to find out if they have made Shoveler-ship
and for goodness sake, if they haven’t, nominate them now.
Remember, the important stuff is local section and CWEA
contributions as well as WEF work.
Nominations can be faxed to (562) 695-6139 but we prefer the hard
copy to also be mailed as it makes a cleaner copy for our judging
panel.
Mail submittals to the address below:
Joe Haworth
3414 Greenwood Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90066
(310) 391-8826
Thanks for taking the few extra minutes to honor the hard-working
volunteers in our profession.
Sincerely,
Joe Haworth
Shoveler Secretary
P.S. We have received nominations from only 6 Sections; Santa
Clara Valley, Monterey Bay, Tn Counties. North Sacramento Valley,
Redwood Empire and Sacramento
