- The SFBS Safety Committee is soliciting potential participants in a Crane Operator Certification Class. We have contacted OSTS Training and have proposed openings for 15 candidates for participation in a training and certification program for Crane Operators. We know several agencies have crane operators who completed the certification when it was first required in 2005. Their certification is now due to be renewed. The Safety Committee has offered to facilitate a complete course to include a 2 or 4-day preparatory training class, the written exam, and the practical exam. Depending on the options requested and the number of crane specialties required, the cost could go for as little as $500.00 for previous experienced operators, or up to $800.00 for new candidates. All medical qualifications would be the responsibility of the agency.
We plan to offer the course beginning in April with all exams completed by mid-May. If you have a candidate who is within one year of needing recertification, please contact Steve Laren at stevel@DDSD.org for additional information. Please provide the name of the candidate(s), the specialty(s) required, and the date the current license will expire.
If there is an ongoing need for this training, the Safety Committee may consider offering this course on a regular basis. Therefore, please express your interest if you have crane operators needing recertification in the future, or if you are considering adding a new operator or two.
